Library Awarded eReader Exploration Grant
The library began offering a monthly class, “Downloading E-Books from the Library,” in February 2012. Until now, library instructors had to explain the e-book check out and download process without being able to demonstrate it on an e-reader. Staff instructors also relied on their own research and training rather than personal experience with the devices to teach the class and answer patron questions about e-readers. With the new library-owned e-readers, technology instructors and other library staff members will soon gain hands-on experience with the most popular e-readers, making all staff better able to serve the public.
The new devices will also allow the Christian County Library to expand free e-reader education. Beginning in August, the library will offer occasional “E-Reader Petting Zoo” sessions, where the public can try out and ask questions about various types of e-readers in a non-commercialized setting or bring their own e-readers to get assistance from library staff. Library patrons can also expect some tutorials on checking out and downloading library e-books, produced by Christian County Library technology staff, to appear this fall on the library’s website at http://christiancounty.lib.mo.us/.
