CCL Debuts MOBIUS November 21st

Beginning November 21st, 2011, Christian County Library patrons will be able to request materials online from MOBIUS member libraries, including the Springfield-Greene County Library and most college and university libraries in Missouri. MOBIUS is a network of mostly college and university libraries in Missouri. The libraries share an online catalog and courier delivery system and accept requests online directly from patrons in participating institutions across Missouri. Materials are picked up and returned from the person’s home library. MOBIUS users appreciate the delivery speed, ease of making requests, and the large collections of library materials available to borrow.

The MOBIUS Union catalog, easily accessible from the Christian County Library website beginning November 21st, gives patrons access to 5.8 million unique titles, and over 23 million volumes. If CCL doesn’t own the title you want, you’ll be able to search for and request your title immediately through the MOBIUS catalog, as long as it’s available from a MOBIUS member library. Staff will notify you when materials are available for pick up, often within a matter of days, at the Christian County Library and its Community Partner locations, the Nixa Community Center, Clever Public Library, and Sparta J & M Foods.

Since the 1998 founding of MOBIUS, Christian County Library patrons have requested access to MOBIUS. Two public libraries, Springfield-Greene County and Missouri River Regional, joined at its inception. Then membership was closed to public libraries. When MOBIUS became a non-profit in 2010, rules changed to again allow public libraries memberships.

Two Ozarks libraries, Christian County Library and Camden County Library will be the first added public libraries to offer MOBIUS to their residents. On behalf of these two libraries, the Springfield-Greene County Library applied for a Technology Ladder Grant from the Missouri State Library. Awarded earlier this year, the grant was approved to pay seventy-five percent of the cost of loading the initial catalog records for the two new members into MOBIUS and other beginning costs.

Visit to learn more about this system. The library will be closed all day November 17th for MOBIUS staff training. Brochures and online tutorials will be available at the Christian County Library and at beginning November 21st.

This is a great resource for our community! Thanks for the info. I've requested a title and will see how it works out. I'm wondering how long the borrowing period is?

The borrowing period is usually three weeks from the date that you pick up the item. When you come in to check it out, we will give you a receipt and write the due date on the front of the book. It is a wonderful service and we are pleased to be able to offer it to our patrons.
