The current Christian County Library can be a bit of a drive for some residents. Funding at present precludes expansion to underserved areas like Nixa, but there’s good news. If you have internet access from home, no matter where you live, you don’t have to make a trip to the library to use many of their resources. From the Christian County Library website, http://christiancounty.lib.mo.us, you have access to the library catalog, databases, Community Course schedules, and more.
If you visit the library’s online catalog at http://coolcat.org/search~S4, the first thing you’ll want to do is sign up for a library card. You’ll need to make a trip to the library once to verify your identity and pick up your library card. Once you’ve created a card online, you can search for books, audiobooks and movies in the library catalog. You can place holds on items you want, and they’ll be set aside for you to pick up at the library. Or, you might choose to have your materials sent to be picked up at the Nixa Community Center, J & M Foods in Sparta, or the Clever Public Library. The online catalog also allows you to renew your books, check your fines, keep a reading history, and see what new titles have arrived this week at the library.
Besides the catalog, the library website gives you quick access to the programs and classes the library offers each month. Find the schedules for children’s story hours and programs, free computer classes, programs for teens, and Movie Days. Register for any of these through the online catalog with your library card.
One of the most important features of the Christian County Library website is access to databases. Databases, to use some library speak, are searchable collections of information grouped together by topic. The library pays for databases so you, the library card holder, can have access to a myriad of information not freely available online. There’s the Chilton Library, repair information for vehicles of all makes and models, the Gale collection, which provides access to millions of full-text magazine and journal articles on a wide variety of topics, and Learning Express Library, study information and practice tests for everything from the ACT and GED to Cosmetology, Law Enforcement, and Nursing exams. Visit http://christiancounty.lib.mo.us/databases.html to view the full list of databases you can access with your Christian County Library card. There truly is something for everyone.
